Scope
This document specifies the water quality indicators, sampling and monitoring, and safe use of industrial water for urban sewage recycling. This document is applicable to recycled water used as raw water for industrial water such as indirect cooling open-circulation cooling water make-up water, boiler feed water, process water and product water, direct cooling water, washing water, etc. in industrial production processes.
Introduction

GB/T 19923-2024 Standard Interpretation

This standard (GB/T 19923-2024) comprehensively regulates the water quality of industrial water for the recycling of urban sewage. It is applicable to the recycled water used as raw industrial water such as indirect cooling open circulation cooling water make-up water, boiler feed water, process water and product water, direct cooling water, washing water, etc. in industrial production processes.

Background of Standard Formulation and Analysis of Technological Evolution

This standard is a revision of GB/T 19923-2005, and is mainly optimized for the application needs of recycled water in the industrial field. The new version adds limit values for indicators such as total nitrogen, fluoride, and sulfide, and imposes stricter restrictions on existing indicators such as pH, chromaticity, and chemical oxygen demand (COD).

Implementation Suggestions

  1. It is recommended that recycled water plants select basic control items and selective control items based on user needs, and ensure that the monitoring frequency meets the requirements of Table 5.
  2. Anti-backflow devices should be installed in the transmission and distribution system to avoid direct contact between recycled water and drinking water.
  3. Encourage the use of environmentally friendly measurement methods such as ion chromatography and gas phase molecular absorption spectroscopy.
